Welcome to the Metal Shop
Located in the SculptureX Building, the Metal Shop is equipped with state of the art fabrication equipment for steel, aluminum, and bronze. The Shop is available for use by students, staff, and faculty in the School of Art who have completed the required safety training for design, coursework, and research projects. The metal fabrication shop features a foundry equipped with the ceramic shell process, a CNC plasma cutter, and extensive equipment for hot and cold shaping and assembly of metals.
Open Shop Hours
The Shop is supervised by a combination of a Technician and Student Shop Monitors with access generally available Monday thru Friday 9AM- 5PM and extending into a revolving set of night and weekend hours which vary by semester. Safety trainings, equipment repair, and material runs at times contrast with Open Shop Hours; an up-to-date calendar of available Open Shop Hours can be found at the link below. As a general rule, the shop is closed on University of Arkansas holidays.

Shop Access is by appointment only to best ensure availability of space and equipment and to comply with COVID maximum capacity standards. In addition to general Shop access, individual & class Safety Trainings, project consultations, and reservations for the School of Art Truck, etc. can all be made via the link below.

People:
Chase Young is the School of Art Wood & Metal Shops Technician. Young received an MFA in Art with an emphasis in Sculpture from the University of Arkansas in 2019 and a BFA in Sculpture from Arizona State University in 2016. Chase's work has been shown nationally in various exhibitions, including "Media Matters" at the Foundry Art Center in Saint Charles, Missouri, 2015; "Digital Disconnect" at Apothecary Gallery in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 2017; and the "International Sculpture Center Little Sculpture Show" in Portland, Oregon 2019.
